External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday to attend a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conclave on Wednesday. During a dinner reception for SCO delegates, Jaishankar and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif exchanged pleasantries, shaking hands and engaging in a brief interaction.
This marks the first high-level visit from India to Pakistan in years, reflecting ongoing tensions between the neighboring countries. Jaishankar landed at Nur Khan Airbase, where he was welcomed by Ilyas Mehmood Nizami, Director General for South Asia in Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as confirmed by the Pakistani foreign office on social media.
