Navratri 2024 Day 2: Worshipping Maa Brahmacharini

navratri day 2

On the second day of Shardiya Navratri, celebrated on October 4, devotees honor Maa Brahmacharini, the second form of Maa Durga. Known for her intense penance, she symbolizes purity and devotion. Maa Brahmacharini is depicted walking barefoot, holding a jap mala (praying beads) in her right hand and a Kamandal in her left.

According to Hindu mythology, she undertook severe austerities to win Lord Shiva as her husband, spending thousands of years in meditation and strict diet. It is believed that worshipping her enhances virtues such as penance, dispassion, and ethical conduct.

This nine-day festival continues until October 12, celebrating the nine forms of Adi Shakti, known as Navadurga.
